Proposal for Establishing an IT and Vocational Training Center in Umuopara, Umuahia, Nigeria

1. Executive Summary

This proposal seeks to establish an IT and Vocational Training Center in the Umuopara community of Umuahia, Nigeria. The center aims to empower the community by providing access to technology, vocational training, and sustainable energy solutions. The proposed center will house a computer lab with thirty computers, a solar power system, and a training space for vocational trades such as tailoring, plumbing, and phone repairs.

2. Objectives

  • Provide access to information technology and vocational training for community members.

  • Equip the youth and adults with skills to secure employment or start their businesses.

  • Promote sustainability through the use of solar energy.

  • Create a self-sustaining center that will drive long-term community development.

  • Estimated cost: NGN 4,000,000

4.2 Building Construction

  • Main building with computer lab, vocational training space, office, and multipurpose hall: NGN 50,000,000

  • Includes materials, labor, and finishing.

4.3 Equipment Costs

  • Computers (30 units): NGN 9,000,000 (NGN 300,000 per computer, including peripherals).

  • Furniture: NGN 4,200,000 (desks, chairs, storage cabinets).

  • Solar Power System: NGN 14,000,000 (panels, inverter, batteries, and installation).

4.4 Initial Setup Costs

  • Internet installation and initial subscription: NGN 900,000

  • Tools for vocational trades: NGN 5,000,000 (tailoring machines, plumbing tools, phone repair kits).

4.5 Operational Costs (First Year)

  1. Salaries for Teachers and Staff:

    • IT instructor: (2) NGN 2,400,000/year

    • Vocational trades instructor (2): NGN 2,400,000/year

    • Administrator: NGN 1,200,000/year

    • Cleaner/security: NGN 800,000/year
